Through the guitar I express what I am, how I feel, where I come from and where I want to go.

Through the guitar I give voice to my emotions; it has helped me to channel my feelings, both in the best and worst moments of my life; it has also allowed me to reflect, to stop and see things from a different perspective.

I like peace and quiet, enjoying the simple things in life and being able to find calm spaces to compose. The guitar is also for me that necessary moment of spiritual and personal retreat. 

I am constant and persistent in achieving my goals. With effort and willpower I define the projects as they arise. It is better to do things slowly, better quality than quantity.

In my music I would say that I am faithful to my roots, to my cultural tradition. Through my compositions I try to transmit to everyone the intensity I feel for flamenco music.

MUSICAL PRODUCTION

Aim and Vision

My aim is to give shape to what musicians have in their heads. To be able to see their ideas and translate them into music.

It is crucial to capture the creation’s purest meaning to transmit and shape the main idea with a strong personality, without losing the initial essence of the project. My job here is to ensure it is completed in this way. Some changes might be needed to improve the work, but taking care not to get lost from the initial projection that we want to give and communicate.

Working Method

The way I work is as follows:

The composer or director of the piece of work sends me their ideas, references, videos or any other input to show me what it is and how they want us to create the work. In other words, I gather all the information, I ask questions, I put myself in the artist's or client's shoes to try to reach them and capture their feelings as much as I can.

Sometimes they give me total freedom, so that I can do all the work, that is, they give me the idea, and I do all the production. Other times they tell me specifically how the work should sound. Any way is possible.

The first step is to have a dialogue either in person or through emails, video conferences, etc., depending on the circumstances of each artist or client. This step is essential to capture all the information, sensations and feelings that we will later turn into music.

The second step is the composition and arrangements. In this step we have to perceive the musical spirit, the chords and the rhythms.

The third step is the recording with the musicians and artists. Depending on the story we are dealing with, we will need instruments accordingly. We can use, if necessary, virtual and/or acoustic sound. Sometimes the fusion of both can be enriching, if the musical style and the story that is being told require it.

Finally, the mixing and mastering processes: here we will optimise the sound to the maximum, as well as other technical processes. All these are controlled by me and my team in the production work. The aim is that the client receives the piece of work completely finished.

PROJECTS

BLACKSMITH´S GUITAR

My new solo project.

The project is inspired by my origins, tradition and culture of flamenco music. It’s a journey from the purest and most conservative flamenco, through the transition and evolution towards a more modern flamenco, without losing its essence and purity.

With this project I want to transmit how flamenco is a way of life, an unwritten "language" that is passed on from generation to generation, from parents to children, from grandparents to grandchildren... leaving an indelible mark with the passing of time.

With these themes I want to bring to people the sensations and feelings of tradition, home, neighbour's patios where meetings were held... in which a closeness and union of towns and people could be breathed. That is to say, going back to the origins and going through the evolution of flamenco up to the present day.

It is a "journey" through the music of my life from the point of view of flamenco.

From the origins of flamenco that I have inherited, to versions of other styles and musical cultures that I have acquired.

EQUINOX

Two cultures, two paths that meet, two worlds that are born and develop at the two furthest ends: that is equinox.

Like the culminating moment of the seasons. Like the vital meeting of two souls that were born to find each other and blend together.

From the West, with a rich cultural mix, coming from European singing and African dances and traditions, Jazz is born.

From the East, gathering the North African arts, from Eastern Europe, India and places in the Middle East, Flamenco is born.

Two seasons, two rivers that gather the waters of very different places and cultures, that grow in their own particular mix of races until they meet.

With a totally original repertoire composed by myself and Carlos Arriezu:

A guitar offers Flamenco, a piano expresses Jazz, and both grow in perfect Fusion.

It is in this encounter that our EQUINOX takes place.
